He knows. Now Where Do We Go From Here.....

He knows.
Jacob knows.

In the middle of looking at China pictures last night we came across this

a picture of  us with his beloved "ya-ya" and his "China baba".
at which point Jacob said,
"Jacob no China mommy. Jacob baby, lay down, no mommy."

He knows.

"Ya-ya, pick Jacob up."

He knows.

My 7 year old sweet boy
knows
that
she
left
him.

He knows that he was abandoned.
He knows.

Oh my heart.

Now before you go on to give me a big fat, "Duh. Of course he knows he was an orphan."
Think about that.

I didn't meet these boys and say, "Hi. I'm your new mom. Want to go get some ice cream and oh by the way are you aware of your previous orphan status? Tell me what you know of your abandonment."

Further, these kids were surrounded by other kids with their same "status".
This was normal life to them.
How much did they know?
How much did they understand?
I. Had. No. Idea.

Where we go from here?
I
don't
know.

There is no road map for this.
There is no one size fits all hearts solution to explaining to your 7 year old the intricacies of an entire country's social & political makeup.
There is no How To manual on how to properly tell your child about his abandonment.

One moment, one breath, one conversation at a time I guess.
Sweet, sweet boy.

And I will restore to you the years the locusts have eaten. Joel 2:25

  1. Oh ... my heart is sinking.
Where do you go from here?
    On your knees.
Remember He does not call the equipped, but equips the called.
Praying for His words to be your words!
Love & Blessings from Hong Kong,

  2. As I read your post I thought of that verse from Joel. So much of this, only the Lord can restore...and He who promises is faithful!! I'll keep you in my prayers as the Lord navigates you through this time.

  5. Oh, Sonia.
    I'm so sorry.
This isn't something I've had to deal with yet.

    Praying for you, my friend!

  6. Yes, your hope is in God's Word. I love Joel 2:25. Funny, I just read it the other day and it applied to a different area in our lives. Now it is applying to a completely different circumstance for you. With Ivy, I just let a little out at a time. She doesn't understand the magnitude of having a birth mother...yet. I know the day is coming when many tears will be shed. Now she has a family to help her through as do your sons. I'll be praying for you.

  8. Oh my Sonia! My breaks for your sweet child! All I can say is to pray and seek His words for your sweet boy! Oh my, this is something they all have to face at some point in time but 7 seems very young to have to try and wrap his heart around it. Hugs!!

  9. We heard our son's story from him...and I'm not sure either how to react...and how long will it be until he hears some other kid ask..."didn't his mother want him?" Some bright kid asked my older son...he said " mom what shall I say?"

  10. It was last year about 10 months ago that Alaina 'figured' it out. You probably remember my post about it. She was seven then...so maybe it's an age thing,too. Heart breaking, I know. She's ok now and seems to be ok with it. He has you to love him through it. {{{hugs}}}}

  11. You are amazing and God will see you all through this. I imagine at this point I would focus on the part where "Ya-ya pick up." Praise the Lord! That precious boy was picked up and then you picked him out of ALL those waiting to be adopted. God must really love a boy for him to be so special that he was PICKED twice. Perhaps that can soften the blow, at least until he is older. Love you.
